The Mach Loop – Snowdonia

Amazing trip to deepest Snowdonia to tick another one off the bucket list! The ‘Mach Loop’ is used for low level flight training and has been on my radar (‘scuse the pun) for a while now.

Loads of planning, background research and a ton of weather apps later, I drove early hours on Wednesday as good weather was predicted and was halfway up a huge hill (Cad West) by 10.30am, cameras in hand.

Hercules, Hawk T2s and F-15s so close you could see what the pilot had for breakfast! What a thrill for an aviation kid! 😉👌🏻

What an adventure also … other than that, a stunningly beautiful campsite location, Cedris Farm and the breathtaking drive into Snowdonia from Welshpool.

I chilled out, had a beer or two, ate and played a little guitar … Then … it rained almost non stop, whilst blowing a hoolie for the rest of the trip! 🌧️🤣… I got stuck halfway up a mountain in a deluge (Cad East!) and had to turn back.

Abandoned tent ⛺ after one night and turned my little C1 into a makeshift camper van and cooked al fresco between the downpours! 🌧️ … Loads of my stuff got soaked, I upset my car’s immobiliser and couldn’t drive it for a day and I was convinced I had trench foot!! 💧🦶🏻 🤣 … But I was still happily at one with the awesome surroundings and even managed to play my guitar under the stars … was it all worth it? Hell yeah! 😊👍🏻 … if it’s on your bucket list, do it now!
